ENUGU: HON. EZINWA COMMITMENT IN GRASSROOTS FOOTBALL DEVELOPMENT IN EZEAGU LGA YIELDING GOOD RESULT

Grassroot Sports Development is one very important area Local Governments in Nigeria has not really taken serious despite calls by relevant stakeholders in sports development to explore the huge potentials in that sector.

Though individuals and some politicians are doing reasonably well in promoting grassroots Sports, yet many say a lot needed to be done to tap the huge resources there, especially now sports has become lucrative business in the world.

While other Local Governments in Nigeria pay little or no attention to grassroots sports development, Ezeagu LGA in Enugu State under the leadership of Hon. Chukwudi Fred Ezinwa, The Executive Chairman, is investing heavenly in grassroots football development, making it one of the major youths empowerment and centre of attraction for the young people in Ezeagu.

Hon. Ezinwa as a former chairman of the care-taker committee of Ezeagu Local Government began this talent hunt by sponsoring the under 12 team to a competition in China where the team reached the semifinals stage at the tournament. “As a former Chairman of caretaker committee of Ezeagu LG, I sponsored our under 12 team to a competition in China where they took fourth position", Hon. Ezinwa said.

The recently concluded Ikeoha Football competition in Enugu West sponsored by the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ikweremadu, which Ezeagu LGA won the trophy is clear evidence that Hon. Chukwudi Ezinwa's investment in grassroots football development is no doubt yielding good result.

According to the Ezeagu LG boss, “I believe the empowerment we are talking about, if we really touch the grassroots, we will make a lot of progress. We never relent; we keep on covering the gap. Grassroot Sports Development involves a lot of investment, and that is exactly what we are doing, if not, you are not going to get result. And that is why we excel. We are really prepared to invest in football to fetch them young. What we have done in the stadium for the Ikeoha Tournament is to proof to the people that our team prepared for it. So be it as it may be, if they bring out that cup five times, we are going to carry it five times".

Sports lovers and people of Ezeagu extol Hon. Ezinwa for his commitment in developing football sports in the area.
