NUJ ELECTION: Abia, Imo NUJ Purchase Nomination form for Isiguzo, Innocent Igwe

The journey of success has just begun as journalists from all parts of the federation gathered at Abia State to witness and endorse the presidential, Zonal Vice President and Zonal Secretary Aspirants as they purchased their forms. Deacon Chris Isiguzo's form was purchased by Abia State Council while IMO State Council bought for their Chairman Emeritus Sir Innocent Igwe.

Handing over the nomination form to Isiguzo at the NUJ Press Centre Umuahia, on Wednesday, NUJ Chairman, Abia State, Comrade John Emejor, said the gesture was borne out of the council’s conviction that Isiguzoro has the capacity and all the needed qualities to lead NUJ at the centre.

He said Isiguzo’s antecedents and landmark achievements as the NUJ Vice Chairman, South East, left no one in doubt that “somebody in his mould is what NUJ at the centre needs to put it on the path of greatness.”

Emejor assured him of the continued support and prayers of members and leadership of the Abia State Council for the success of his presidential bid.
Responding, Isiguzo expressed gratitude over the gesture which he said had tremendously encouraged him.

” This will be a successful journey because my parent/ home Council has purchased my nomination form for me “, he declared, adding that” it is a mission accomplished”.
Isiguzo who said he was only at the Press Centre to pick his nomination form and not to campaign as it was not yet time for campaign, however, noted that he was in the race to rescue NUJ from ” imminent collapse”.

He said the current national leadership of NUJ had completely drifted, hence his joining the race to rescue the union from total implosion.
” My candidature is a movement; I am on a rescue mission because NUJ has clearly drifted. That is why we said that men of goodwill should come together and rescue this movement .

” We have come to positively disrupt the movement to rescue the union from imminent destruction.”

Adding his voice, his Campaign Director General, and former Chairman of NUJ Kogi State, Comrade Ali Atabo, said there had been complaints of impunity, arrogance, corruption, crisis, and other anomalies against NUJ leadership, hence the need for someone to salvage the union.

He however, said Isiguzo would unfold his manifesto when the ban on campaign was lifted.

On the entourage of the VP were the South East Zonal Secretary, Comrade Ken Ofoma who also picked his form for a second tenure; and Imo State Council Chairman, Innocent Igwe who also secured nomination form for South East Vice President courtesy of the state Council.

He was also accompanied by NUJ Chairmen from Abuja Council, Enugu, Anambra, and Imo, former Plateau State Chairman, and Bauchi State Assistant Secretary.

Responding, a member of the screening committee and National Trustee of NUJ representing South East, Ezeogo Boniface Okoro, assured all contestants of level playing ground in the up- coming National Delegates Conference scheduled for Abeokuta Ogun State from September 26 to 28.
